Remembrance (Microstory) - Sarah Ertl

Remembrance
She gazes onto the casket where her father lay; she talked to him just a week prior.  It was a short month earlier that he came to her daughter’s second birthday celebration.  He loved playing on the swings with her, she giggled with delight, their matching strawberry-red hair catching the sunlight.  She marvels at how unfair life can be, as she feels a tug on her skirt.  She turns to see piercing blue eyes looking up at her, sensing her grief.  Recognizing her father’s eyes, she embraces her daughter and is finally able to bring herself to leave the cemetery.
